Peru State College Honors ProgramCassandra was born in Fairbury, Nebraska and has spent most of her life in the southeast corner of Nebraska. She attended Peru State College and participated on the cross country team for a year before focusing her time on tutoring. As a tutor at Peru State College she tutored every math course offered by Peru. She earned multiple tutor of the year awards. She fell in love with teaching others to not only understand but also enjoy mathematics, especially statistics.
While a student at Peru, Ms. Tangen also worked as a mentor in the fusion program for three years and strived to never miss a home sporting event, especially football. She enjoyed supporting all of her friends in athletics, theatre, and music. Her years as a bobcat were some of the most memorable years of her life. Ms. Tangen graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and distinction from the Honors Program in May of 2014 from Peru State College.
After graduating from Peru, she attended the University of Nebraska, Omaha where she worked as a graduate teaching assistant while working toward her Master’s of Science in Mathematics degree which she completed in May of 2016. She then worked at the University of Nebraska Omaha for a year as the coordinator of Intermediate Algebra.
Ms. Tangen returned to Peru State College in 2017 as an Instructor of Mathematics. In the fall of 2020 Ms. Tangen became the director of the Honors Program, a position she is excited to serve in as she was once an honor student herself. She enjoys cheering on the Bobcats at home sporting events and supporting the music and theatre department. She hopes to show her students that all aspects of college life are important whether they be academic or extracurricular.
Outside of work Ms. Tangen enjoys hiking, gardening, and baking with her husband and four children. She runs occasionally and always looks forward to competing in Nebraska’s Toughest Mile. Ms. Tangen also keeps herself busy by working toward her PhD in Statistics. She believes that a person should never truly quit learning.
