First Generation Students

A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parents did not earn a bachelor’s degree.  More than half of all new Peru State undergraduates are first-generation students. Often first-gen students don’t have a parent role model to help them navigate the complexities of the college environment.  Peru State College offers many resources to help students succeed.

Peru State College recognizes National First Generation College Day to celebrate first generation members of our campus community on the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965.  First generation students, staff, and faculty proudly wore a “I’m First-Gen -- Ask Me About It” button.

TRIO SSS – SSS is a program that provides support services for eligible participants.  First-generation students are eligible for membership!  Learn more about SSS at www.peru.edu/SSS and apply for membership today.
