Bio:
Shana M. Walsh, PhD, is an associate professor of Health, Physical Education, and
Recreation at Peru State College. Her area of expertise is health promotion and specifically
the adoption of healthy behaviors. Her research interests focus on improving health
and quality of life through increasing physical activity and decreasing sedentary
behavior, and the application, measurement, and evaluation of health behavior theories
to explain and predict health-related behaviors.
Before beginning a career in higher education, Shana was a public school teacher through
Teach For America (Mississippi Delta ’09 corps), and taught Spanish at the elementary
and secondary levels.
Shana is originally from New York City. Her hobbies include backpacking, hiking, running,
resistance training, paddle-boarding, canoeing, and traveling abroad as often as she
is able.
