Peru State provides free personal counseling services to all students. Counseling can help with making decisions, improving personal skills, developing increased confidence, overcoming blocks to personal effectiveness, and acquiring a keener awareness and appreciation of one's own needs and the needs of others. The counseling process may involve exploring and expressing feelings, examining beliefs and ways of thinking, reflecting on patterns of behavior, and working toward making healthy changes.
Distance learners who reside in the State of Nebraska can access counseling services via phone or Zoom. If you are not a resident of Nebraska, feel free to connect with the counselors who will work with you to identify referral sources. The risks inherent with tele-mental health services will be covered and agreed upon with each student prior to initiating the service.
Scheduling an Appointment
Appointments are made directly with the counselor, and drop-ins are welcome when the
counselor is not already in session. Counselors are generally available during regular
business hours: Monday — Friday, 8 a.m. to 5p.m.
In the event of an emergency, please call 911. After-hour counseling can be sought for students in duress but does not substitute for emergency assistance. Contact Campus Security at 402-872-2411 if you believe you need immediate support. Peru State has a CARE Team (Campus Assessment, Response and Evaluation Team) to address concerns that specific individuals may pose a risk to themselves or to others. To make a referral to the CARE Team, contact one of the CARE Team members or fill out the CARE Team Referral Form .
